Kochi: Kasaragod won a hat-trick in the semi-finals of the State Junior Football Championship at Ernakulam Maharaja’s College ground. In yesterday’s match, Kasaragod entered the semi-finals as Group A winners after defeating Palakkad by six goals. Umar Afaf scored four goals in Kasaragod’s resounding victory. This is Umar Afaf’s ninth goal in the tournament. Kasaragod defeated Kozhikode (4-2) and Pathanamthitta (7-0) on the first day. Pathanamthitta defeated Kozhikode 3-1 in the last match of Group A held yesterday. Kasaragod’s opponents will be Group C winners in the first semi-final on 22nd at 3 pm. The final is on the evening of 23rd. Group B matches started on Friday. In the first match, the hosts Ernakulam crushed Alappuzha by eight goals to one. Captain Kevin T. Anoj scored a hat-trick, while Madhavesh Krishna bagged a brace.
