Parsons has operated Sweet Blackberry since 2005; his first animated film The Journey of Henry ‘Box’ Brown is narrated by Alfred Woodard. Queen Latifah and Chris Rock also narrated stories for the animated series.
The actress created the foundation to “instill a sense of culture and heritage in her daughter” and found the “triumphant stories of individuals overcoming adversity and making invaluable contributions to our society to be inspiring and empowering, but the Our schools often lack the time and resources to teach our children more than a handful of stories about African Americans in history.
