Karvina Coach Reflects on Loss to Slavia Prague and the Performance of Goalkeeper Holec

Holec came to Karviná at the beginning of the week as a free agent, before that the former goalkeeper of Sparta worked in Lech Poznaň. The last time he fished was in February. After his arrival, he immediately stood in the goal of the team from Silesia, in the first minutes the home team warmed him up, but in the 13th minute he delayed the play for so long that Muhamed Tijani deprived him of the ball and then comfortably scored into the abandoned goal.

“I’m sorry that we start the match well, take the lead, and with an incomprehensible play, when we get to 1:1, it all falls apart for us. The boys didn’t play badly in the first half. We wanted to be more active, to keep the opponent away from our own goal. So that it wouldn’t be like Sparta. Unfortunately, the opposite is true, the result is even more cruel than in Sparta. From a psychological point of view, it won’t add much to us,” summarized Karvina coach Tomáš Hejdušek and compared the duel in Eden with the previous performance in Sparta, where his team lost 1:3.

“Maybe if we had kept the 1-0 score for a longer time, it would have been different. The opponent might get a little nervous. I’m not saying he wouldn’t have won, but it would have been different,” reflected the coach of the guests. He supported the girls just like Čavoš. “He knows it very well, he is an intelligent boy. We will continue to support him. In modern football, the goalkeeper is part of the game, he is the eleventh player. We want goalkeepers to be able to play with their feet, to be able to secure. It was a mistake, but he will pay us back. I believe him,” declared Hejdušek.

Karvina could have wavered, but she still resisted for twenty-five minutes. At the end of the first half, Slavia broke away with two goals. “Every team will drop this. It happened, but we wanted to keep playing the same way. Unfortunately, it probably crushed us a little,” Čavoš said.

The guests faced two penalties in Eden. Referee Dominik Starý blew the first whistle on the hand of Jaroslav Svozil, his video colleagues called him to the video. The second after Jiří Fleišman’s intervention on Conrad Wallem, in this case VAR did not intervene. “VAR decided that it was a penalty. I have absolutely no reason to talk about anything. We have to be much more careful in the penalty area,” responded Hejdušek.

Karviná has only scored a point since the opening victory over Zlín, conceding a lot, having already scored seventeen goals. “At Sparta, we went to a three-back system and we were too deep, we didn’t want that here in any case. We went back to the four-man defense we are used to. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out, but especially the first half was not bad from our side. There is something to build on. We concede a lot of goals, but I still see it as a positive. We played with the top of the Czech league. Now we have the battles of truth ahead of us. We will see how we are doing there,” the coach expressed confidence in his team.
