Karun Chandhok points out why Verstappen rides differently against ‘King’ Hamilton

Max Verstappen he had little to fear this season Lewis Hamilton, although we saw tensions rise again towards the end of the season when the two met during the Brazilian Grand Prix. Karun Chandhok tries to explain why this is the case and thinks it is due to the reputation of the Briton.

In 2021 we saw several times how Verstappen and Hamilton didn’t want to give themselves an inch on the track. The two, for example, crashed at Silverstone, Monza and Jeddah and after the races it was in many cases a game of throwing mud at each other. In the end, the hatchet seemed to be a little more buried this year, as the Briton usually drove much further back than his Dutch colleague.

Clash Brazil

Towards the end of the season, the Mercedes however, his way went ahead and so Hamilton and Verstappen met again more often on the track, such as in Brazil. It immediately went wrong again and the gentlemen touched. Verstappen was thrown on the slip by the marshals with a five second penalty, although there was still a lot to be said about this afterwards, not everyone was on board with the penalty and many fans thought Hamilton had simply closed the door for Verstappen in the inside corner.

Tear down the throne

According to Chandhok, it is clear that Verstappen approaches fights with Hamilton very differently than duels with his new rivals. BeeSky Sports” href=”https://twitter.com/skysportsf1/status/1603782117644677120″ target=”_blank”>Sky Sports explain why. “Lewis is this generation’s king of the castle. Max felt he had to stand up to Lewis and dethrone him. On the other hand, he sees George, Charles and Carlos as his generation. Not to dethrone them. That’s why he runs against them differently ,” the analyst says.
