Lokomotiv Moscow striker Artem Dzyuba can count on being called up to the Russian national team if the coaching staff of the national team is satisfied with the football player’s game, about this declared “Match TV” head coach Valery Karpin.

“If we have official matches, any player, regardless of age, if he suits the coaching staff and proves his level with his game, can count on being called up to the national team,” Karpin answered a journalist’s question about calling Dziuba to the national team.

When asked by a journalist whether the return of Dziuba from the Turkish championship was good for Russian football, Karpin replied: “Of course, it’s good.”

In early February, Dzyuba moved to Lokomotiv. From mid-August to early November, Dziuba was a player in the Turkish club Adana Demirspor, from which he left by agreement of the parties.

Dzyuba, 34, is a former national team captain who last played for the team at Euro 2020. After the appointment of Karpin, Dzyuba was not called up for the September matches of the 2022 World Cup qualifying tournament. The coach explained the decision by the fact that the player is in poor shape. At the end of September, Dziuba himself refused to be called up to the national team, citing suboptimal form.

Then Karpin did not call the striker for the decisive November qualifying matches of the World Cup, subsequently stating that he had “put an end” to the issue with Dziuba and the national team.

In March, Karpin did not call Dziuba at the request of the football player, who referred to family circumstances.
