Karpenisi: EODY was informed about the mass food poisoning of students – 2024-10-08 03:21:54

Thirty students of the Faculty of Agriculture started on Monday from Athens, to attend a conference in Karpenisi and ended up in the hospital with food poisoning.

For the first two days of their visit, everything was going well, until a female student started having symptoms of gastroenteritis and then one by one, about 30 students, manifested the same and worse.

“They were going to the conference, they didn’t have time to go. He got it on the way. First my daughter was alone. Then I learned about the other people. 30 people I know so far. I don’t know if there are others. Others have left, it was better they left Athens, others have stayed in Karpenisi… waste. EODY is also looking into it, he has also spoken with her. He went for the first time when he was five years old and this happened. May;”said the mother of a student.

18 of the students were transferred to the Karpenisi General Hospital in order to receive the appropriate care and treatment.

“About 18 children came along with the guide and the tour leader, after all, who had symptoms of gastroenteritis. Our hospital is small. We have no way of diagnosis except to rule out salmonella. Which we excluded from day one.

Clinically everything is very good, a little boy came to me today, all the rest are for discharge and to go because clinically they are excellent. We have also sent the rest of the samples to EODY, that is, we are waiting to see if we can get a diagnosis from something else”said Theodoros Daladimos, pathologist and director of the General Hospital of Karpenisi.

Food poisoning

So far, what has been established is that it is about mass food poisoningwithout however determining what caused it.

“Some were hospitalized around 10 to 12 hours, because they had symptoms of gastroenteritis with vomiting, diarrhea, some who had a fever, they kept them and took intravenous antibiotics for 24 hours. The first girl who came, was then transferred to Lamia, there was a typographical error in the examinations, it seemed much more serious to us and we did not have a diagnostic tool nor did our hospital have an ultrasound, so we quickly fled to Lamia to diagnose that clinically it was she’s fine too”added Theodoros Daladimos, pathologist & director of TEP of Karpenisi General Hospital.

The student who first manifested the symptoms, continues to is being treated at the Lamia hospital and as her mother reports to LIVE NEWS, she still hasn’t recovered.

“He spent two days in Karpenisi just fine. They had no problem. Now I don’t know, in the unit with the sheep they went to, if there was anything there. However, the yogurt they ate was pasteurized, he says. Now I don’t know where they went. They ate in a tavern… Fainted, that’s it. She was just so weak that she couldn’t speak or say what exactly, that’s why… They still have her on serum, she’s not eating, she’s miserable. Vomiting and fever. This. Some germ has stuck, but exactly the germ has not said.”

EODY has contacted all the students who fell ill in order to clarify the spoiled food and the cause of the poisoning.
