Karolína Muchová advanced to the 3rd round of the US Open Grand Slam. The tenth-seeded tennis player and finalist at this year’s Roland Garros defeated Poland’s Magdalena Frechová twice 6:3 on the concrete courts in New York. The native of Olomouc will compete in the round of 16 with the American Taylor Townsend, who knocked out the 19th seeded Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia.
The 27-year-old Muchová did not lose a set again in Flushing Meadows and won the seventh of her last eight matches. Before the start of the US Open, she made it to the finals of the tournament in Cincinnati. She surpassed Frechová, the 77th player in the world, in the number of winning balls by a ratio of 24:11.
