Karol G’s Largest Concert in Chile: Behind the Scenes of the Spectacular Show with 180 People, 3 Planes, and 30 Cargo Trucks

30 cargo trucks traveling from abroad. A truckload of just costumes for the main star and his dancers. A total of 3 planes for the tour. 180 people traveling for the entire tour, including a physiotherapist and a meteorologist.

All that and more will move the Colombian singer Karol G for her imminent three shows this weekend at the National Stadium: it is the largest concert by an urban artist in the country. This is what Daniel Merino, Entertainment Manager of Bizarro Live Entertainment, says, the production company in charge of bringing “Bichota” to Santiago.

“In the Latin world, it is the biggest show that is going to be in Chile. This beats Bad Bunny, who flew over people. Concerts have a lot of elements that make the concert complete. It lasts three hours, where he reviews the oldest hits to the most recent ones,” the executive reveals in conversation with Culto.

She is the first woman to sell out tickets for three dates at the venue. Carolina Giraldo Navarro—her real name—marked a milestone in the history of concerts in the country. Daddy Yankee filled the stadium with three dates in 2022 and was followed by Coldplay—until now leading—with four concerts in a row the same year. Thus, next April 19, 20 and 21, Karol G will be on par with the Puerto Rican reggaeton player when he makes the three appointments in Ñuñoa.

“I think she could have done five stadiums, but there is an issue of physical exhaustion, because unlike Coldplay, for example, there is a lot of dancing in their show. With the number of people left in line, which was 800 thousand people, I think she could have done six, seven stadiums without a problem,” Merino bets.

The woman of the year according to Billboard and one of the most impressive breakout credits on the global scene set foot in Chile for the last time at the Viña 2023 Festival, in a successful presentation where she not only won the precious seagulls, but also the affection of the public. . “This show comes to consolidate what she did in Viña. What she did there was tremendous,” indicates the producer. This month the “Bichota” will arrive again on national lands within the framework of Tomorrow will be beautiful World Tour, a tour that began in Las Vegas in August 2023 and will end in Madrid in July of this year.

The phenomenon of the author of Amargura has an explanation, according to Merino: the powerful feminist message of Karol G. “Artists not only follow the music, but rather they follow what transcends the music. Karol G all the time makes the statement regarding women, that they should not allow themselves to be taken away, or that they should not allow themselves to be abused in any way.

“People connect with the causes of the artists. Karol’s cause is to value you as a woman. That makes people not only listen to her because of her music. Women say on social networks: ‘Going to Karol G is like spending the psychologist’s money, because like going to therapy.’ “She connects in such a deep and intimate way with people, that it makes the bond very strong and the audience very tough in terms of fandom,” she explains.

The tour is named after the artist’s last album, with which she won the Latin Grammy in 2023 for Best Album of the Year and Best Urban Music Album, becoming the first woman to win this last award. This recognition is added to those she won in 2018, as Best New Artist, and in 2021, as Best Reggaeton Performance.

With 17 years of career, four studio albums and even a brief foray into Netflix in the series Griselda, Karol G arrives in the country demonstrating a growth that even makes her different from the singer who passed through Viña in 2023, when she also had a guest role. to Myriam Hernández, whom she described as a “reference” since she was a child.

After seeing a technical planning of Taylor Swift’s concert, Daniel Merino assures that the level of Karol G’s presentation is along the same lines. “They are very similar, such as the elevator system that is below the stage tunnels. It has a lot of technology, which we are not used to seeing even in big shows, like Coldplay. It is a show that is going to make a difference in terms of the equipment it brings,” he explains.

As Merino reveals, the show has a fairy tale theme. As images from her previous tour concerts reveal, Karol G can be seen emerging from the mouth of a giant shark and singing above a cloud, accompanied by a pianist.

“When he leaves, a book opens as if it were a Disney story, he tells his past and how he got to where he is now. All the time, that book is being told. There are characters that are deployed throughout the stadium, where people can take photos,” reveals the Bizarro representative.

A main stage and a walkway that connects it to a secondary stage make up the heart of the concert. “80% of the show happens on the catwalk. Walk from one side to the other, dance from one side to the other,” explains Merino.

The experience will be accompanied by bracelets, which will be given to event attendees. There are a total of 60 thousand pixmob calls. These will shine to the rhythm of the Colombian’s songs – an exercise very similar to the one presented by Coldplay – who contemplates more than twenty costume changes over the course of the evening. “She even has an exclusive wardrobe for Chile, with the colors of the flag,” adds the producer.

Karol G wanted to bring to Latin America the same concert that he brought to the United States. For this reason, the level of complexity of the technical equipment requires that it be brought in its entirety from outside Chile, from lights to audio equipment, says the Bizarro representative.

“What she has managed to do is mix all the technologies available to make the concert. It has pyrotechnics, LED screens, a number of lights – and lights that do not even exist here in South America –, variable elevators that go up and down to the rhythm of the music, LED bracelets, circuit cameras. It is a very visual show, very closed circuit, the camera is on her all the time, focusing on her, and with which she interacts,” Merino explains.

Due to the size of the staging, which includes three elevators, screens, projectors and lights, the team amounts to 180 people, including Karol G’s physiotherapist and a meteorologist, in charge of evaluating the weather conditions in which the event will take place. event. He is responsible for telling the team if, for example, the assembly can be carried out in rainy conditions, very strong wind or adverse weather.

“It has a top-notch team, mostly American. Then, the other group of tour workers is Colombian, but they are all from outside,” he points out. Also on the premises, there will be nearly 900 officials – 500 of them guards – ensuring organization and security. Regarding this last area, the first entry to the premises will be with an identity card and with metal detectors.

More figures? About 3,500 people work on the entire concert. There are 200 tons of cargo. The three planes for the tour are two cargo (Boeing 747) and one for passengers (A320neo). There are also 800 lighting machines.

The National Stadium will receive 60 thousand people every night; in total, 180 thousand attendees in the three days. According to Merino, the security measures have been studied in conjunction with the local authorities, who will establish traffic cuts that will be announced shortly.

In addition, he indicated that there will be an extension of the metro’s hours. “There will be an extension of the metro’s hours, until 1:30 in the morning, so that people can safely reach their homes. Clarify that we as a producer pay the Metro to make an extension, it is not that the Stadium subsidizes,” he explains.

As announced by the producer on his X account, the National Stadium will have a TEA room, which will also be equipped with an occupational therapist for guests who win the raffle on social networks.
