It didn’t take long for Karol Gimenes to dominate the under-78 kg category final. With almost two minutes left of the fight, the Brazilian applied an Ippon on Yuliia Kurchenko and took the third gold medal for Brazil in this Judo Grand Prix in Zagreb, Croatia. But the achievements did not stop there. Rafael Macedo (90 kg) and Leonardo Gonçalves (100 kg) also fought well and ended up with bronze medals.

As in the semifinal, Karol Gimenes wasted no time and dominated his opponent. In the decision, the Brazilian applied an Ippon against Yuliia Kurchenko and took the gold medal of the competition. This was the third gold medal for Brazil in this tournament. Jéssica Pereira (52kg) and Willian Lima (66kg) were the champions at the debut of the Grand Prix in Zabreb this Saturday. In the up to 90 kg category, Rafael Macedo competed for third place against Altanbagana Gantulga. It was a tough battle, but the Brazilian got an advantage in the middle of the fight. Even with two light penalties in the fight – known as “shido” – he managed a Waza-ari and defended until the end. Leonardo Gonçalves turns around and wins bronze at the Judo Grand Prix

Leo Gonçalves started by losing the battle against Piotr Kuczera in the up to 100 kg category. He took a Waza-ari early on and had to recover in the contest. But it didn’t take long either. Soon after, the Brazilian applied an Ippon and won the bronze medal.
