Bengaluru: Lokayukta says Karnataka BJP MLA as main accused in bribery case. The Lokayukta has registered a case against Davanagare Channagari MLA Madal Virupakshappa. Reports in the local media say that the MLA has gone into hiding after the case was registered. There are also indications that Virupakshappa is trying for anticipatory bail.
8.12 crore rupees were seized in the raid conducted on the houses of the MLA and his son yesterday. Earlier, MLA’s son Prashant Madal was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh. After this, crores were seized from the MLA’s residence. Virupakshappa had resigned from the post of chairman of KSADL, a famous Mysore sandal soap manufacturing company in Karnataka, following the controversy surrounding the incident.
The bribery case at a time when the elections are near is a heavy blow to the BJP. Prashanth was trapped by the Loka Yukta officials after knowing that he was accepting bribes. 1.7 crore rupees were found in Prashant Madal’s office. It is suspected that the son took bribe for his father. An official of the Loka Yukta section said yesterday that the investigation is on as to where the money came from.
