Due to a technical defect, a transporter loaded with around 150 pigs caught fire on Wednesday (February 8, 2023). Luckily, both the driver and the animals were unharmed. However, the fire caused considerable property damage. According to the Würzburg police inspection, the incident happened around 7:30 a.m. in Karlstadt.
Shortly thereafter, a fire brigade call announced that there was a burning truck on the southern bridge. When the Karlstadt police arrived at the scene, the vehicle was above the B27. Apparently, the vehicle’s tractor unit caught fire as a result of gearbox damage.
Property damage in the six-digit range
Since the volunteer fire brigades from Karlstadt and Mühlbach were quickly on site, extinguishing work could begin immediately. This prevented the fire from spreading to the trailer loaded with pigs. The driver also escaped in time. According to initial estimates, the property damage could amount to up to 150,000 euros.
In addition to the police and fire brigade, representatives of the veterinary office and the road maintenance department were also on duty. The southern bridge remained completely closed for the duration of the rescue and cleaning work. During this time, traffic will be diverted via the ring road.
