The fighter Karlos Vémola spoke almost 24 hours after his defeat by Patrik Kincl in Saturday’s MMA battle for the middleweight champion of the Oktagon organization.
Kincl clearly won the closely watched duel in the O2 arena 5:0. “The long-awaited match is behind us and it didn’t go according to my expectations. Even though a lot of people said that I won it, it doesn’t matter now because I should have finished it and left no one in doubt,” Vémola wrote on social networks on Sunday evening .
The “Terminator” blamed himself for a poorly chosen tactic. “I went into the fifth round thinking I was in the lead. If I had known that wasn’t the case, I would have entered the last round differently and I would have easily risked getting knocked out… Patrik (Kincl) is the champion, that’s just the way it is. If you want to beat a champion, you have to run him over or finish him, and unfortunately I didn’t do that,” he said.
Vémola no longer wants to fight in the 84 kg weight class, to which he had to brutally lose weight: “No more gambling with my own health. There are younger and better guys here, and my body just can’t take it anymore, that’s a fact.”
The fighter protested that he showed disrespect to his defeater after the match when he disappeared from the hall immediately after the duel. “I’m sorry that I didn’t make it to the post-match press conference, but unfortunately my eyes took a lot of damage during the match and I had to go straight to the hospital for an examination. Anyone who knows me knows that I respect my opponents and can fulfill my duties even after a loss, but my health was more advanced,” he defended himself.
Now he has time to get himself together before the next matches. “My career is not over yet. I have already arranged matches with the Octagon and I will definitely keep them, after all I am the light heavyweight champion. What will happen next remains to be seen. I will think about everything calmly,” added Vémola, who now wants to rest and to my family.
