Kārlis Lācis and Aija Vītoliņa release a new album – Music

With the second single – “Maria Stewart’s Waltz and Juliet’s Song”, Kārlis Lācis and Aija Vītoliņa release a new album, arranged only for piano and voice.

There were a number of compositions that were not recorded and released. Last spring, the idea arose to compile and record both previously created songs and new compositions in one studio recording, releasing a digital album. Unlike the interpretations heard before, in both of these songs all the songs are composed and arranged for voice and piano, performed by Aija Vītoliņa and Kārlis Lāčs, which is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated duets.

This recording summarizes and records original compositions of Latvian non-academic music by composer Kārlis Lāčs, which were composed from 2006 to 2020 and have gained the recognition and love of the listeners.

“Along with many of Aija Vītoliņa’s professional qualities and abilities, in the context of this project I want to emphasize the idea of the program that corresponds to time and events. Everyone who has ever heard Aija’s performance admits that it is a nuanced, multidimensional performance. “This is the first time in our creative experience that this will be an important addition to the repertoire of concerts in the near future.” , composer Kārlis Lācis.

Album secondangel originated in kin the concert version, because in it Juliet’s song follows Maria Stewart’s waltz, so the studio decided not to separate the two compositions and create a common story. Both themes are from Daile Theater performances. “A kind of dedication to J.J. Jillinger, thanks to whom I got into the world of theater and then also musicals. And why not a single 8 minutes long. “, composer Kārlis Lācis.

Over the last fifteen years, the collaboration of the creative tandem has culminated with compositions created especially for Aija Vītoliņa’s vocals, which can be heard in the album and concert performance “Ziedonis. A bear. Women. ” (2012) and songs with the poetry of Māra Zālīte, which are included in Aija Vītoliņa and Tango sin Quinto’s album “Klusums” (2018).

A video version of the story has been made for the song, the author of which is Elīna Veigule-Bernāne.
