Karla K. acquitted in buttock augmentation case | Inland

Twelve women had reported the woman after their treatment. They suffered from discolorations, pits and bumps in the buttocks, pain, hardening, dimples and ulcers. According to the public prosecutor, K. knew that the fillers she used are harmful and she concealed the risks during the treatments. K. denies that.

“At the time of the treatments, much less was known about those risks and there was no ban yet,” the court said. Therefore, it cannot be established that K. knew about the high risk of serious complications. “That also means that it cannot be proven that she intentionally harmed her customers.”

However, the court has serious doubts about its method. “For example, she has not done any research into the fillers, has insufficiently informed her customers about it and has not offered them sufficient aftercare. It is therefore questionable whether the suspect acted carefully, but in this case this cannot lead to a criminal conviction.”

A one-year suspended prison sentence was demanded.

K. treated the women between 2005 and 2013, after a short course in Venezuela, with liquids she bought in Colombia. She charged 500 euros for the treatments. The case came to the fore in 2015 after a TV program by Alberto Stegeman.

In the Netherlands, since January 2015, there has been a ban on permanent fillers for cosmetic treatments, because of the health risks.
