Karine Le Marchand reveals which roles Stéphane Plaza and Cristina Cordula will play in “Operation renaissance” (M6)

Operation renaissance took three years of filming and a year of editing. What was the trigger for you?

Karine Le Marchand : I had met Joëlle Cadoret, the show’s hypnotherapist, for my chocolate and Coca Zero addictions. After several sessions, it had worked well and we had hit it off. As a specialist in sugar addiction, she shared with me testimonials from patients whose lives had changed. I thought, then, that if I ever had to do something around this subject, I would call her back … Then I met a surgeon who “fixes”, and he used the word “rebirth” in speaking of the post-massive weight loss. In life, I love these moments of rupture, when everything changes. So I started to investigate obesity. Michel Cymes recommended doctors to me, including Professor David Nocca, co-founder of the League against Obesity. I spent a few days in his service in Montpellier. I attended operations and I said to myself: “Everyone has their opinion on obese people, but they are never given a voice.“The weight loss being done over 18-24 months, you had to take the time. M6 told me:”Bank !

What message do you want to send with this show?

First, we have to change our outlook on obesity. We are in a society which rightly denounces the problems of homophobia, racism … But it does not care about these people who are insulted because they are obese. However, they represent several million French people. Beyond this profile, we also give keys that can be used by everyone, even those who do not have a weight problem.

Stéphane Plaza and Cristina Cordula are part of the adventure. Is it for the corporate side?

I thought it was not me who accompanied the acceptance of the patient’s body. Cristina, who is a friend, used very interesting supports to achieve this. We’ve never seen her like that. As for the choice of Stéphane Plaza, it was a patient who wanted to retrain in real estate. I asked Stéphane to offer him an internship, quite simply (…)
