Karin (62) was laid off

– I went straight to the ground, Karin Næss tells Dagbladet.

On Saturday, the outdoor-loving 62-year-old is out for a walk in Østmarka in Oslo to enjoy the winter holiday weather.

However, the trip does not go quite as she had planned.

When Næss has to walk a few meters on the edge of the ski slope to get over to the next trail, the unbelievable happens.

She is plowed straight down by a skier, and it appears to be on purpose.

– I was completely put out, says Næss.

It was Oslo newspaper who wrote about the matter first.

Will be plowed down

Næss has spent a lot of time out in Østmarka over the years, but has never experienced anything like this.

– It was incredibly special. I walked as far out on the edge of the ski slope as possible so as not to ruin it, since I have to walk between 20 and 30 meters to get over to the next hiking trail. Then a skier comes behind me, she explains.

Instead of shadowing the course, as one might expect, the skier lays down in the tracks closest to Næss, and plows her down.

While she remains on the ground, the skier continues on, without so much as looking back.

This is despite “more or less ugly expressions” that Næss laughs off in his bewilderment.

– You shouldn’t do that. It was incredibly poorly done, she says.

– Totally pointless

Næss has a theory that the man ran her down because she was walking in the ski tracks.

As an avid cross-country skier, she herself has been annoyed by people walking around and destroying the ski tracks.

– That’s why I went so far to the edge, so that I wouldn’t spoil it for anyone. To let loose on me in such a way was completely pointless, says Næss.

Get Facebook response

When she returns home after the shocking experience, she decides to write a post in Facebook group “Eastmarka” to tell about the unfortunate situation.

– You should actually share positive things there, but I just had to say something about what happened. It’s not right, she says.

The post has received a great response. By Sunday evening, well over 300 had responded to the post, and in the comments section several people told of similar experiences.

– I hope that the person who did it sees the post and learns something from it, says Næss.

She spends time in Marka almost every day, and has done so for a long time.

Around 20 years ago she ended up in a similar situation in Lillomarka, but this is the first time in a long time that she has experienced something like this.

– For consideration!

Despite the shocking incident, Næss is clear that she is not going to stop using Marka.

– On the contrary, she says, and continues:

– I will continue to enjoy Marka, and think that this was the one time that did not go so well.

The experienced hiker also has some tips for others who travel outside, whether on ski slopes or hiking trails.

– You should always be generous and kind to each other, says Næss.

– I think it is important to enjoy and be out in nature, and then it is also important to take each other into account, she adds.
