The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) reported that the Westminster Magistrates Court, in the United Kingdom, is awaiting the corresponding procedures, to set the date for the extradition hearing of Karime Macías Tubilla, ex-wife of the former governor of Veracruz, Javier Duarte.
“Since last March, the British Prosecutor’s Office, expressed its apology for the delay in undoing the case, due to the pandemic that has limited its activities, as UK government offices have been closed for a long time”, Said the FGR.
He recalled that at the beginning of this administration, the FGR initiated the extradition procedure of Karime Macías, obtaining from the English authorities that precautionary measures were imposed on him consisting of a location bracelet, the periodic signature at a police station in the city of London, and the impediment of approaching maritime stations, land and areas, while the corresponding judgment is released.
Two weeks ago, the First Collegiate Court on Criminal Matters refused to protect Karime Macías against the arrest and provisional arrest warrants for extradition purposes that exist against him., which is why she can be apprehended in Mexico.
In the first instance, the Sixth District Judge of Amparo in Criminal Matters, Juan Mateo Brieba de Castro, Denied Karime’s protection against the arrest warrant issued by Alma Aleida Sosa Jiménez, Judge of Control of the Oral Criminal Procedure and Process Court of the Xalapa Judicial District, on May 25, 2018, for his probable responsibility in the crime of patrimonial damage for 112 million pesos, to the detriment of the state of Veracruz.
He also refused to grant him the protection of justice against the request for provisional arrest for extradition purposes.
On October 29, 2019, Karime Macías was arrested in London, England, and was granted the benefit of bail for 150 thousand pounds sterling, equivalent to 3.5 million pesos. Currently, he faces his process in freedom.
