Karim Benzema will leave Real Madrid at the end of this season. The Spanish giants said on Sunday that the French forward had agreed to a deal that will end his glittering era at the club.
Thirty-five-year-old Benzema was linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia this week. On Saturday, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said that there is no doubt about the player’s future in Madrid.
“Real Madrid and our captain Karim Benzema have agreed to end his great and unforgettable era as a player at our club. We want to show our gratitude and love for someone who is one of our greatest legends.” Real said in a statement.
The 35-year-old forward has been with Real Madrid since 2009 and has won five Champions League titles, four in the domestic competition and three Spanish Cups. “Karim came to Real in 2009, when he was only 21 years old. He was a key player in this golden period of our history. He played 647 games for us and scored 353 goals. He was an example of behavior and professionalism representing the values of our club.
He is one of the greatest legends of our club and world football. Real Madrid has always been and always will be his home and we wish him and his entire family the best in this new phase of his life.” added the club.
The management of Real confirmed on Saturday that Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio and Mariano Diaz will also leave the club in the summer.
