On BFM TV, Jordan Bardella, the leader of the National Rally, attacked: “At least he is coherent. He wants an Islamist way of life, he went to Saudi Arabia. If everyone who wants an Islamist way of life could go to Islamist countries, perhaps France would be much better off. I think that Benzema is a fellow traveler of Islamist ideology. We must distinguish the work from the individual. He is perhaps one of the greatest French footballers but he is accustomed to Islamist practices (…) Please note, I never said that this is a provocation on his part: I guarantee his consistency! »
This is clearly not the first prank by the far-right parties against Benzema. As a reminder, whistleblower and Reconquest activist Damien Rieu was the subject of a trial by the French international for having compared him to Islamic State fighters in two tweets dating from 2020. The activist recently been acquitted by the Lyon courts…
