Karim Benzema did not see his departure from Real Madrid coming. On Tuesday, the 35-year-old striker said goodbye during the official ceremony at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu The Royal.
It seems that Benzema will continue his career at the Saudi Al-Ittihad. “I wanted to end my career here, but sometimes a new opportunity comes,” says the Frenchman during his speech. Benzema kept it short during his speech. “I will never forget Real Madrid. That is impossible, because it is the best club in history. But I think the time has come to leave and start a new adventure. Thank you, Madrid. I was lucky to fulfill my childhood dream.”
President Florentino Pérez expressed his word of thanks to Benzema just before that. “Dear friends, today one of the most incredible footballers in our history leaves. Thank you, Karim, for this love story that we have already lived together and which has now become eternal.”
Benzema’s trophy cabinet is gigantic. At Real he won four national titles, three times the Copa del Rey, four times the Spanish Super Cup, five times the Champions League, four times the European Super Cup and five times the World Cup for club teams. In 2022 he seized the Ballon d’Or.
