Jakarta –
Al Ittihad held to a 1-1 draw by the hosts Al Taawoun in the continuation of the Saudi Pro League this season. Karim Benzema scored two goals in that match, one of which was into his own net.
Playing at the King Abdullah Sport City Stadium, Friday (20/10/2023), Al Ittihad managed to take the lead in the 22nd minute. Benzema completed Igor Coronado’s cross with a header which Al Taawoun goalkeeper Mailson failed to save.
However, four minutes later, Benzema ‘contributed’ a goal for his opponent. The French striker intended to clear the ball in a corner kick situation, but instead it went towards his own goal. It was the first own goal in his career.

The 1-1 score lasted until the end. Throughout the match, Al Ittihad recorded eight shots on goal, but only one resulted in results. Meanwhile, Al Taawoun had three shots on goal with 48 percent ball control.
This result made Al Ittihad fail to overtake Al Taawoun in the standings. Benzema et al are currently in third place with 20 points, three points away from Al Taawoun who are in second place.
Al Ittihad is also in danger of being overtaken by Al Nassr and Al Ahli Saudi, who have now both collected 19 points but have one match saved. Al Fateh and Al Ettifaq are also not that far apart because currently both have 17 points and have one match in reserve.
