In an interview with The Spanish, Karim Benzema admitted that he was ready to expand the responsibility of being a banger after leaving Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018. Regarding Ronaldo, Benzema apparently learned CR7’s playing style to be even better!
“I always liked to watch and observe him, I tried to concentrate on his movement, dribbling, passing, controlling the ball. I dissected everything from him but then doing the same is impossible,” he said.
Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo both strengthened Real Madrid in the 2009-2018 period. But at that time, Benzema opened up more space and served Ronaldo with assists.
Benzema even entered the list of players who most often provide assists to Ronaldo. That’s 47 assists!
Now it can be said, Karim Benzema has successfully proved his identity as a top striker. Although there is still a long way to go, to surpass Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal record at Real Madrid as the all-time top scorer (323 goals to 450 goals).
“Benzema is the best striker, who has been around for a long time,” said former France striker Thierry Henry on a different occasion.
“He can play wide, can play deeper, and adapts well. I am disturbed by people who say that Benzema used to be under Cristiano Ronaldo’s shadow, but it wasn’t like that,” he continued.
“Benzema played well with Ronaldo. Now Ronaldo is gone, Benzema is able to become the top scorer to replace Ronaldo’s task. I always admire Benzema, he is the best striker in my opinion,” he concluded.
