The Antofagasta Court of Appeals accepted this Wednesday the extradition request made by the Public Ministry to ask the Netherlands for the extradition of former mayor Karen Rojo, to serve her sentence.
“The request for the extradition of Karen Paulina Rojo Venegas, already individualized, is accepted, and a copy of this resolution must be addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, requesting that the necessary diplomatic steps be taken so that the Kingdom of the Netherlands grants her extradition for being sentenced as author of the crime of fraud to the Treasury, provided for and punished in article 239 of the Penal Code“.
Meanwhile, a few hours before, the Instagram account of Karen Rojo, who was inspected by the Carabineros 0S9, according to sources of the investigation to which this newspaper had access, now appears closed, so it is no longer possible access the mayor’s publications. Her Twitter account was also closed.
The Public Ministry also ordered the search for relatives of the former mayor in order to request their statements, and it was not possible to locate them.
According to information from the investigation, both the brothers and the mother of the former mayor, as well as her ex-husband, could not be found to require testimony. However, these procedures may not have been carried out yet because their addresses are out of date, and not because they are actively avoiding giving their statements.
Regarding the partner of the former mayor, who did not travel with her, she would find herself making use of her legal holiday in Linares, not answering the calls made by the investigators to her telephone number.
THE FLIGHT FROM PARIS TO CHILE
Likewise, the police information indicates that Karen Rojo bought a return ticket for April 10, a flight that will depart from the Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, on the Air France airline.
It is then confirmed that Rojo could return to the country, although the analysis carried out from sources close to the investigation is that the purchase of the return ticket would only have the purpose of being able to enter the kingdom of the Netherlands without problems as a tourist, where It is a requirement to enter this country as a tourist, to have a return ticket and thus avoid the problems of entering the country of destination.
For this reason, the thesis of the researchers is that Rojo would seek to remain in Dutch territory living in hiding.
