Karel Roden on the film Expired: I don’t even want to imagine that it concerns me

Radek (Karel Roden) returns to Prague after twenty years to find a young woman there and once and for all come to terms with his past. He is assisted in the search by the ambitious radio presenter Eva, played by Barbora Bočková, in whose live night show Radek tells his story. Igor Bareš, Vilma Cibulková, Denisa Barešová and Vladimír Kratina will appear in other roles.

Because the plot of the film takes place in a single evening, it had to be shot mostly at night. “From six to midnight, the Czech actor is the best partner for the director. But it was spinning in the summer and there was little darkness. So it was filmed from ten in the evening until five in the morning, “explained the film’s director Robert Sedláček.

The filmmakers also open up the topic of statute-barred crimes in connection with the fact that in 2020 an amendment to the Criminal Code came into force, which moved the statute of limitations for particularly serious murders from the original 20 years to 30. “Murder should not be statute-barred. When someone disappears from your life and you don’t know what’s wrong with that person, I think it’s absolutely killing, “says Denisa Barešová, a representative of one of the main female roles, about the issue. “The fact that if he comes to the perpetrator later, for example he confesses himself, he can no longer be punished, he is unpleasant, I do not even want to imagine that it would concern me personally,” added Karel Roden.

Expired collects film awards around the world. It had its world premiere at the Newport Beach Festival in Los Angeles, where more than 50,000 spectators went. He has already won an award for best film at another Los Angeles festival. He also returned with the same prize from festivals in New York, Florence, Barcelona and Cannes. Karel Roden also won the Best Actor award from New York and Robert Sedláček from London for the best European director. He will end his festival trip in April at the Prague International Film Festival – Febiofest. He should arrive in theaters on April 28.
