The elections in the Karate Federation are in the air, since the outgoing administration is accused of irregular methods and exclusion of candidates. The opposition has filed injunctions, which will be heard tomorrow. The funerals are scheduled for next Sunday.
According to the written complaint, sent by the opposition combination “Karate Brosta” last week to the representatives of the State (the Deputy Minister of Sports Yannis Vroutsis and the ggA George Mavrotas), the announcement of the elections is irregular in time, since the 45-day deadline stipulated by law was not respected.
In addition, the outgoing administration is accused of having arbitrarily and with pretextual excuses excluded 31 unions close to the opposition and 13 of the 14 “dissident” candidates.
If the court upholds the request for interim measures (which was preceded by an out-of-court hearing by the opposition to the president and the ELOK board), the Sunday elections may be postponed to 2025. In this case, they will be held under the auspices of a temporary administration.
In the complaint, it is stated that the current administration of the Karate Federation “is already accused by the Prosecutor of fraud against the Greek State related to grants”, amounting to at least 25,000 euros. Here you can read the relevant report, which was published in Documento in February 2022. The administration of the Federation had responded with this letter.
The president of the outgoing administration, elected in 2021 with the blessings of Avgenakis, is Theodoros-Margaritis Sietis of EL.TECH. “Anemos”, skyrocketing in the sport, with legal advisor – and for a short time deputy president – the lawyer Spyros Kladas, an elected official (and almost a candidate for parliament last year) of the “blue” faction. Kladas was the head of the Special Control Service during the Prime Ministership of Costas Karamanlis, and also secretary of Olympic Development after the 2004 Games.
Karate was an Olympic sport in 2021 in Tokyo, where however there was no Greek representation.
The father of the leading Greek athlete Elena Hatziliadou, Maximos, is among the excluded candidates, while the club of Katerinis, where the two belong, lost the right to vote.

**What specific legal grounds does “Karate Brosta” cite in its effort to halt the Karate Federation elections?**
## Karate Federation Elections in Limbo as Court Weighs Irregularities
The upcoming Karate Federation elections are shrouded in controversy, with allegations of procedural violations and candidate exclusions casting a shadow over the process. The opposition coalition, “Karate Brosta,” has lodged formal complaints and initiated legal action, seeking to halt the elections scheduled for this Sunday.
The crux of the controversy lies in the alleged irregularities surrounding the election announcement. “Karate Brosta” accuses the outgoing administration of failing to adhere to the legally mandated 45-day notice period, potentially jeopardizing the entire election process.
Furthermore, the opposition has alleged a deliberate and systematic attempt to silence dissenting voices. The complaint highlights the exclusion of 31 unions affiliated with “Karate Brosta” and the disqualification of 13 out of 14 “dissident” candidates. Such actions, if proven, could signify a blatant manipulation of the electoral process aimed at consolidating power within the federation.
The stage is now set for a crucial court hearing scheduled for tomorrow, where a judge will decide on the opposition’s request for interim measures. If the court rules in favor of “Karate Brosta,” the Sunday elections could be delayed until 2025, potentially leading to the appointment of a temporary administration to oversee the electoral process.
This brewing conflict within the Karate Federation raises serious concerns about the fairness and integrity of the elections. The outcome of tomorrow’s court hearing will determine the fate of the organization and its future direction. It will be imperative for all parties involved to act in good faith and prioritize the best interests of karate and its athletes.
**Key Points:**
* **Allegations of Irregularities:** The opposition claims the outgoing administration violated election regulations regarding announcement timelines and unfairly excluded numerous unions and candidates.
* **Court Intervention:** “Karate Brosta” has filed for interim measures, seeking to postpone the elections. A court hearing is scheduled for tomorrow to determine the validity of these claims.
* **Potential Delay:** If the court sides with the opposition, the elections could be pushed back to 2025, with a temporary administration potentially taking the helm.
* **High Stakes:** The outcome of this conflict will have significant ramifications for the Karate Federation’s leadership, its future direction, and the overall integrity of the sport.
This story will continue to develop as the court resolves the legal challenges and the Karate Federation navigates this period of uncertainty.
