A question to the Minister of Digital Governance about the intensifying phenomenon of electronic fraud against unsuspecting citizens was submitted by the responsible department head and East Attica MP of SYRIZA-PS, Giorgos Karameros.
Publications in the daily press make known yet another attempt to extort money and sensitive personal data from citizens using distinctive signs of the Hellenic Republic and the Unified Digital Portal of the Public Administration (Gov.gr). Specifically, as the “Demokratia” newspaper reveals, messages were sent to citizens with the supposed sender of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport inviting them to proceed with a process that resembles the digital environment of gov.gr in work related to the issuance of identity cards. Despite the importance of information, in order for citizens to be especially careful in phishing practices, the use of distinctive signs of the Greek state in such actions is problematic.
As stated in the press release of G. Karameros, in order to effectively deal with the problem of security gaps and in this case phishing with distinguishing marks of the Greek state, it is necessary to evaluate what has been done so far at the National Cybersecurity Authority regarding its staffing, system incentives that will make it competitive as an employer in a highly attractive market, but also that the digital means at its disposal are sufficient for the realization of its purposes.
Giorgos Karameros asks the competent minister how he intends to deal with the phenomenon of forgery of the signals of the Unified Digital Portal of the Public Administration in phishing practices and also for what reasons the integration of the European Directive into national law has been delayed, reaching a critical point in terms of the deadline of October 17, 2024.
At the same time, the head of Digital Governance of SYRIZA-PS requests data on the staffing percentage of the National Cyber Security Authority in PE and IT IT sectors in particular.
