Kanye West reportedly compared his marital home with ex-wife Kim Kardashian to a “prison” on his new record, recalling that he had “escaped Calabasas”.
West, 44, hosted a listening party in Las Vegas on Sunday for his new songs, with a track, “Welcome to My Life,” detailing his separation from the reality TV star and his failure to run for president.
The Sun quoted an insider who explained that the song is “very deep” and “sad”, with West “reflecting on his marriage to Kim”.
“He talks about the kids and mentions that she takes everything. After playing this song, he stopped for about two minutes and cried. It was really dark, ”the source added.
The album – the rapper’s tenth – is called “Donda”, in honor of his late mother, who died in 2007 from complications following cosmetic surgery. She was 58 years old.
Two of the guests at the exclusive shindig included web personality Justin Laboy and basketball star Kevin Durant.
“Kanye played his new album for me and @ KDTrey5 last night in Vegas”, Laboy tweeted. “The production is light years ahead of its time, and the bars sound like he’s broke and hungry trying to get signed again. Any artist who [plans] falling soon should just push it back. He followed up with an all-caps capsule review: “ALBUM OF THE YEAR”.
Earlier this year, Page Six exclusively reported that the A-list couple was breaking up. West and Kardashian tied the knot on May 24, 2014, in Florence, Italy, and had four children: North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm.
Last month, at a special “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” reunion, the founder of SKIMS – who had presumably not yet heard “Welcome to My Life” – had only kind words on her ex-husband.
“He was my first friend for a long time, so I don’t see that going away,” she told Andy Cohen. “I will be Kanye’s biggest fan forever. He is the father of my children. Kanye will always be part of the family.
