Kanye West barely scores but is already thinking of 2024

The American rapper, producer and clothing designer Kanye West has so far received no more than 60,000 votes. Kim Kardashian’s husband suggested he will try again in 2024.

West, who previously spoke out as a fan of Donald Trump, got into the race late. Beware the 4th of July this year he took up the gauntlet via Twitter. Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk backed him at the time. His first election rally was at least chaotic – he said, among other things, that every new mom should get $ 1 million. He also got very personal, to which his wife Kim Kardashian responded that she was ‘very concerned’ about his mental state.

West’s name ended up only appearing on the ballot in 12 states, because he missed the deadline for most. He stands up for what’s called the ‘Birthday Party’, but got it according to ABC especially from Republicans support to still hit the ballot.

With no more than 60,000 votes, Kanye 2020 is not a resounding success, according to preliminary results. In Tennessee he achieved the best score in absolute figures, with over 10,250 votes or 0.3 percent. In Colorado that was about 6,000 votes, in Minnesota nearly 8,000. In no state did his candidacy have an impact on the chances of Trump or Biden, nowhere does he exceed half a percent for the time being.

On Twitter, he suggested Wednesday night that he would try again in four years. ‘Kanye 2024’, it read, with a photo of himself with an election results card in the background.

Trust yourself

West himself cast his vote in Wyoming. “Today I am voting for the first time in my life for a US president and that for someone I really trust … myself,” he wrote on Twitter. He also posted several photos and videos of himself in the voting booth. It shows how he wrote himself as a ‘write-in’ candidate on the ballot, with candidate vice president minister Michelle Tidball.

A candidate who does not stand up for Democrats or Republicans has little chance in the US anyway. In 1992 there was the Texan businessman Ross Perot, who with 19 percent in the popular vote nearly half of loser George Bush senior’s score made. More recently, activist and lawyer Ralph Nader tried a few times, especially in the very narrow elections of 2000 (George W. Bush v Al Gore) with 3 percent of the vote, according to some, he influenced the final result.
