Kanuk tackles the New York market

The iconic Montreal coat manufacturer Kanuk will soon open its first store in New York.

Established in the SoHo district, the new address will become, on November 23, the first independent store of Kanuk to have a storefront outside of Quebec.

Indeed, the manufacturer primarily does business with resellers, such as Sports Experts, Simons or Atmosphere, to distribute its coats, mainly in Quebec, but also at a few locations elsewhere in Canada, Europe and the United States.

The opening of a store in New York is part of the brand’s desire to internationalize.

“Our new SoHo store is an exciting new chapter in our evolution from a small outerwear manufacturer to a world-renowned Canadian brand. As SoHo is a reinvented neighborhood centered around arts, fashion and architecture, it is a perfect reflection of Kanuk’s fashionable outerwear,” Kanuk President Richard Laniel said in a statement.

In order to get closer to the needs of New Yorkers, Kanuk will offer its new range of fall clothing in its store, alongside its traditional winter coats.

“Buyers will also be able to discover exclusive styles on site,” the manufacturer hinted.

The company said it has only recently sought to enter the international market, yet quickly attracting the attention of major retailers like SSENSE, United Arrows and Holt Renfrew.
