Kansas City Sporting won 2-0 at the expense of Real Salt Lake on Wednesday morning and temporarily took the lead in Group D at the “MLS is back” tournament in Orlando.
Johnny Russell scored in the first minute of play, assisted by Alan Pulido, and the rest of the game went smoothly. Gerso Fernandes finally added a goal at the very end of the match, also benefiting from a game orchestrated by Pulido.
The latter shows no sign of disorientation after being transferred from Mexico last December. After five games in Major League Soccer, the Mexican shows a harvest of three goals and four assists.
Kansas City took the opportunity to steal the group’s lead at Real Salt Lake, with one game remaining between Minnesota United FC and the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday night.
Real Salt Lake was also relegated to third place with four points and a differential of 0. The team is still qualified for the round of 16.
