Kansas City Chiefs Win Super Bowl LVIII in Overtime Against San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas

THE VEGAS, NEVADA –

The Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LVIII by beating the San Francisco 49ers in overtime at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada this Sunday before 61,629 fans. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, with the score down by three points in overtime after a field goal by the 49ers, was cool-headed and connected a three-yard pass with Mecole Hardman Jr., which gave him the title his team for the second consecutive year by winning 25-22.

The 49ers, who were one victory away from getting the franchise’s sixth Vince Lombardi, were up 10-0 in the first half, but the Chiefs little by little gained momentum until they went ahead and scored 10 unanswered points in the third quarter .

After posting a losing record in December, the Chiefs adopted a villain mentality throughout the postseason, surprising three teams en route to their second consecutive title, becoming the ninth team to repeat as champions and the first since the New Orleans Patriots. England in 2004.

It was the franchise’s fourth Super Bowl title for the Chiefs and Kansas City’s third Super Bowl title in five years.

“The guys played well, especially the defense,” said Kansas City head coach Andy Reid.

The 49ers had entered “Super Sunday” as slight favorites against the Chiefs, the complete opposite of when these two teams met four years ago in Super Bowl LIV in Miami, which Kansas City also won.

“The defense kept us in the game,” said Mahomes, 28, the MVP of the big game. “And the offense did what it had to do.”

“Long live Las Vegas,” said Travis Kelce, the Chiefs tight end, before the smile of his girlfriend Taylor Swift, who traveled from Japan to see her beloved champion. Swift hugged Kelce on the field after the victory, marking a fitting end to a season in which the relationship between the pop star and the tight end introduced new fans to the most watched sport in the country.
