Kansas City Chiefs prohibit the wearing of feathers in their hair

Kansas City (AP) – The NFL team of the Kansas City Chiefs forbids its fans from wearing hair accessories and face paint with reference to Native Americans.

In addition, the future of a singing ritual is in question, which contributes to the reputation of the Arrowhead Stadium as the loudest arena in the world, but is also viewed critically. This is the result of ongoing discussions with representatives of organizations that deal with issues that affect indigenous people, said the Super Bowl champion.

In previous years, the chiefs had advised their supporters against coming to the games with fake feather headdresses and in costumes – now it is a ban. The American football team is following a trend among American sports teams to deal intensively with the names, symbols or customs in their environment that the indigenous people find offensive or at least disrespectful.

The Washington football team recently parted ways with its nickname Redskins and is looking for a new name. The criticism of the Redskins name was louder and more noticeable, but the Chiefs have also been approached time and again in the past for their behavior.
