LIVERPOOL – Harry Kane added two goals on Friday, including the one that tied Tottenham to 2-2 against Everton in the Premier League, before limping off the pitch with an ankle injury.
The England captain’s most recent injury comes a week before Tottenham meet Manchester City in the League Cup final. That duel is the last chance for those led by José Mourinho to lift a trophy this season.
For now, the tie against the Toffees prevented either team from getting significantly close to the ticket-granting spots for the upcoming Champions League.
Kane sprained his right ankle when the Brazilian Richarlison fell on him in the discounts of the duel played at Goodison Park. The forward received treatment but ended up leaving for the locker room.
“I think it is too early to report something,” Mourinho said immediately after the match. “The fact that he left the court when we were 2-2 and had a couple of minutes left to play obviously means he felt something. But I want to be optimistic and believe that he has time to recover.”
The attacker has suffered several ankle injuries in recent years.
Shortly before, he had reached 21 goals in the league campaign, two more than Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, on precisely defining in the 68th minute, to even the score after a confusion from defenders.
Kane had given the Spurs the lead in the 27th minute, but Everton turned the game around with two goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson – the first from a penalty after Sergio Reguilón’s foul on Colombian James Rodríguez.
Sigurdsson’s goals came at 31 and 62 minutes.
Tottenham remained in seventh place and Everton ranks eighth, one point down.
