Representative Ibrahim Kanaan said after the Finance Committee meeting today: “We are discussing item by item and item by item because our goal is to finish our work in a serious manner and correct whatever gaps and mistakes in the disastrous 2024 budget as possible.”
He added: “Smuggling is open, people’s money is in banks, and growth is zero. Therefore, we refused to increase fees and taxes because people are not able to pay.”
Kanaan continued: “Governments are responsible for the projects they send to the House of Representatives,” and asked: “Is it reasonable for us to receive communications from the government to amend provisions set by the government?”
The representative also stressed that “it is not permissible to impose taxes within the budget randomly, so we stopped the increases and called on the government to carry out its duties.”
He added: “The state has no accounts, and we will not accept the numbers as they are, and we repeat the demand for an impartial global audit of the state’s and banks’ assets because this is in the interest of depositors and a sound recovery.”
Kanaan continued: “Oh Plato, who is subject to additional taxes, where will he pay them?”
