Multan: Pakistan got off to a good start in the second Test against England. Kamran Ghulam (118), who replaced Babar Azam in the team, scored a century on debut, the highlight of Pakistan’s innings. Pakistan have scored 259 runs for the loss of five wickets when play was stopped on the first day of the match in Multan. Muhammad Rizwan (37) and Agha Salman (5) are the top scorers. Jack Leach took two wickets for England.
It was a bad start for Pakistan. They lost the wickets of Abdullah Shafiq (7) and Shan Masood (3) for 19 runs. Both were returned by Leech. Then Ghulam reaches the nose for the fourth time. Ghulam along with Saim Ayub (77) saved the team from relegation. Both added 149 runs. Matthew Potts breaks the alliance by firing Ayub. Saud Shakeel (4) who came later could not shine. With this, Pakistan were at 178 for four. Later, Ghulam returned by adding 65 runs to Rizwan. The player was bowled by Shoaib Basheer. His innings included one six and 11 fours. Later, Rizwan – Agha kept the wicket intact.
After a poor performance in the first Test, Babar Azam was dropped from the last two Tests. Apart from former captain Azam, Pakistan’s top fast bowlers Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah were left out of the 16-man squad. The Pakistan selection committee had announced that Sarfaraz Ahmed was rested along with the trio. Despite passing 500 runs in the first innings of the first Test, Pakistan suffered a heavy defeat.
With this, serious criticism was raised against the Pakistan team. There was a demand to get rid of Babur. In the last 18 Test innings, the star could not celebrate a single fifty.
