RB Leipzig’s Bundesliga professional Kevin Kampl is shocked after the knife attack in his hometown of Solingen. “I slept terribly and could hardly sleep a wink,” said the 33-year-old. Kampl was already in bed on Friday evening when he received the news of the attack that left three people dead.
“Of course you are extremely worried and you are shocked that something like this is happening in your home town, that there are deaths and so many seriously injured. I am praying for the people who are still fighting for their lives,” Kampl said on Saturday.
Nighttime phone call with parents
The 1-0 victory against VfL Bochum with his club RB Leipzig played only a minor role for the midfielder. “I hope, of course, that they get this monster as quickly as possible,” said Kampl. The attack took place at the city’s 650th anniversary celebrations.
“Here comes a psychopath and causes such damage. People who just wanted to have a few hours of fun with probably other friends who then don’t come home,” said Kampl.
That night he spoke on the phone with his parents, who still live there. “Helicopters and drones were circling over the city all night,” said the football professional. “Normal people who actually had no idea about it tried to resuscitate people because there was blood everywhere.”
