Although the news wasn’t always positive, Kamal still considers it a blessing. “I have a lot to draw from for 2023. The only disadvantage: in terms of news, the supply has exploded, especially in the second part of the year, especially in the last three months. I had to make major adjustments to the performance several times, even though my common thread had already been determined and I was already playing tryouts. Very spicy,” he admits to VRT.
And this year Kamal will once again not shy away from anything, not even political themes. “I could fill an entire show with the politicians alone,” he laughs. “Think of the saga surrounding Conner Rousseau, ministerial changes, pipigate at Van Quickenborne, the English of Theo Francken. And there was much more.”
And the TV setting of his show has also been thoroughly considered. “We first thought of a large police combination as a decor, in combination with Manneken Pis. We also had café ‘t Hemelrijk, which played a leading role in the Conner Rousseau story, recreated, but that became too much of a door comedy,” he explains. “I like to invest in a good show, both in terms of content and visuals. That means making choices and making adjustments until the last minute.”
