Kamala Harris had clearly decided to keep a firm grip on the reins that evening. When she enters the stage with Donald Trump (she from the audience’s perspective from the right, he from the left), she steps up to him and seems to introduce herself: “Kamala Harris,” she says. And even here Donald Trump seems almost a little surprised and answers a little stiffly: “Have fun.” The first point went to Harris, just a few moments later.
She acts, he reacts. “This is how it is presented again and again throughout the entire debate,” says NZZ America expert Isabelle Jacobi, who followed the duel. In the approximately 90-minute debate, the most important issues of the election campaign are debated or questioned: the economy, migration, abortion rights.
“Kamala Harris has delivered,” says NZZ foreign editor Isabelle Jacobi. How exactly she did that, how Donald Trump reacted and what exactly that means for the rest of the election campaign and the possible outcome of the election is what she debates with host David Vogel in the current edition of “America Decides.”
