Jakarta –
vice President United States of America (AS) Kamala Harris mention North Korea (North Korea) made a ‘big mistake’ if it exchanged military support with Russia who continues to invade Ukraine.
As reported ReutersFriday (8/9/2023), Washington officials have warned in recent days that arms supply negotiations between Moscow and Pyongyang are progressing.
Reports this week reveal the North Korean leader’s plans Kim Jong Un to visit Russia this month, to meet directly with the President Vladimir Putin and discussed arms supplies to Moscow for the war in Ukraine.
Harris, who is in Jakarta to attend the ASEAN Summit, told CBS News in an interview broadcast on Thursday (7/9), that it would be a sign of desperation for Russia to seek help from isolated North Korea and would further isolate the two countries.
“I think that would be a big mistake. The idea that they would supply munitions for that purpose, is — would be a big mistake. I also really believe that for Russia and North Korea, it would further isolate them,” he said.
White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Tuesday that arms negotiations between Moscow and Pyongyang were actively underway. Sullivan warned Kim Jong Un that North Korea would pay the price for supplying Russia with weapons used in Ukraine.
Last month, Washington imposed a series of sanctions on entities accused of links to arms deals between North Korea and Russia.
