Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz as her running mate, Reuters reported.
Waltz, 60, is a former military man and former teacher. In 2006, he was elected to the US House of Representatives, and since 2018, to the governor of Minnesota.
As governor, Waltz pushed a progressive agenda that included free school meals, goals to address climate change, tax cuts for the middle class and expanded paid leave for Minnesota workers.
Tim Waltz, 60, governed Minnesota during the 2020 protests following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
He deployed the National Guard to help quell the riots that broke out during the demonstrations.
Democrats likely expect him to attract the votes of white voters outside the big cities, who in recent years have voted en masse for Republican Donald Trump.
Earlier today, it became clear that Kamala Harris has officially been nominated as a presidential candidate for the November 5 parliamentary elections in the United States.
