A historic decision that gave women in the United States the right to abortion is in jeopardy. At the same time, a new law to ensure women’s health care was voted down on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the Senate voted over a new law that would ensure women across the United States the right to self-determined abortion.
The law on health care for women was, not surprisingly, voted down. Most of those who said no were Republican politicians.
Vice President Kamala Harris led the vote in the Senate on Wednesday. She was clearly disappointed with the result. 49 voted in favor of the new law, 51 against.
It takes 60 yes for a new law to be approved in the Senate.
“The Senate failed to defend women’s right to make decisions for their own bodies,” Harris said in a statement statement.
She says most Americans believe in protecting women’s rights, and believes the Senate does not reflect the US population.

Kamala Harris urges Americans to vote for senators who will get through the law in the future. President Joe Biden made the same calls.
“What we see around the country now are extremist Republican leaders, who are looking to criminalize and punish women who make decisions for their own bodies,” Harris said.
In November, there are by-elections in the United States. Then the population will vote on who they want to sit in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
