Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has given a shocking interview to Fox News at times. The vice president was harshly questioned by presenter Bret Baier for nearly 30 minutes about, among other things, asylum policy, President Biden’s mental abilities and the care of transgender prisoners.
This was Harris’ first interview on the booking channel. Although she will certainly not have convinced all observers, she will be hoping that in a neck-and-neck race for the White House, such a bold step will turn voters away from her opponent. She made it clear that she has the support of many Republican leaders who are fed up with the former president.
According to Harris, Americans are not looking forward to a second term for Trump:

Baier targeted Harris from the start. “How many illegal immigrants do you think your government has let go?” was his first question. When Harris didn’t want to give a specific number, he suggested it was six million, after which Harris responded humbly and stopped her.
“Let me finish and then I’ll answer the question,” she told him, before admitting that “the asylum system is broken and needs to be fixed.”
Murder by illegal immigrants
Baier was confronted about the consequences of the policy by referring to the murder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray, who was killed by an illegal immigrant who had been released. Fox News often reports on this type of ‘immigration crime‘, although illegal immigrants are generally less criminal.
“Don’t you have an apology for these families,” Baier asked about this and several other murder cases. Harris said she sympathized with the relatives, but she also blamed Trump, who torpedoed the bipartisan asylum plan in Congress.
“Donald Trump heard about that law and ordered it killed because he would rather campaign on this problem than find a solution to it,” Harris defended. Baier countered that the Biden administration had not to find enough support among fellow party members in the first two years.
Fear building
In addition to questions about asylum, Baier addressed another issue important to his conservative Fox viewers in this election: funding for transgender care. He pointed to an election ad from the Trump campaign that criticizes the Biden administration for paying for sex-reassignment surgery for prisoners with taxpayer money.
Trump has spent $20 million on ads to scare voters because he doesn’t really have a plan.
Harris defended himself by saying that this was only the law for medical care in prisons and this rule also applied to Trump’s term. She accused Trump of intimidating a small case: according to prison regulations, there were only two cases in total.
“He spent $20 million on these ads to scare voters because he doesn’t have a plan that addresses what the American people need,” she said. She said she has that with a housing plan, economic investments and tax relief for young families.
Inefficient
Baier also asked Harris about the mental abilities of current President Biden, who decided after a dramatic debate with Donald Trump against a second term and put Harris forward. Baier asked Harris when she noticed that her thinking was slowing down, a question she dismissed.
“Joe Biden is not on the ballot,” she replied, although she said the president is still able to make the important decisions. According to her, only Donald Trump proves that it is not possible. “That’s why his former chief of staff, defense secretary, security adviser and vice president say he’s incompetent,” she said.
Harris was also asked if she would fill the presidential position differently than Mr. Biden. “Let me be clear: It will not continue with the presidency of Joe Biden,” she said, after declaring in another interview that she would have “done absolutely nothing” differently than Biden.
Harris did not say what she would have done differently, but said she is willing to be pragmatic and will also accept good suggestions from Republicans or business people. She also emphasized that she “didn’t spend my entire career in Washington.”
