Kamala Harris canceled her speech at the campaign headquarters – Diario La Página –

The Democratic candidate for the presidency of the United States, Kamala Harris, canceled this Tuesday the speech she was scheduled to give at the end of election day and rescheduled it for this Wednesday, after adverse results against Republican Donald Trump, while the count continues of votes in key states.

Instead of Harris, it was Cedric Richmond, co-chair of her campaign, who addressed supporters at Howard University in Washington, where the candidate had hosted her election follow-up event.

Richmond took the stage to explain the cancellation of the speech and keep spirits up among supporters, some of whom were already leaving the venue due to a lack of favorable news.

“We still have votes to count. There are still states that have not been decided. We will continue to fight through the night to ensure that every vote is counted, that every voice has spoken. So there will be no news from the vice president tonight, but there will be news tomorrow,” Richmond told attendees.

The atmosphere at Howard University, which began the night with music and dancing, changed as the results came in and Trump’s lead consolidated.

Photos of the event showed a shrinking crowd, with some Harris supporters visibly affected by the results, according to reports.

Richmond explained that the vice president will address Howard’s “family,” where she herself graduated in 1986, as well as her supporters and the nation, once more counts are completed.

While Harris’ team asked for patience and stressed the importance of counting every vote, in Florida Donald Trump’s supporters celebrated in anticipation of a possible victory for the former president.

At the event headquarters at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, Trump supporters gathered to listen to an eventual speech by the Republican candidate.

The meeting was attended by some followers of the former president wearing the characteristic red cap with the motto “Make America Great Again” and others wearing clothing with Trump’s name.

“I feel like Trump has won this election. “This is over, and I feel like the world is about to be a lot better,” said Moses Abraham, 22, in the crowd.

The festive atmosphere was reminiscent of the 2016 election, as noted by Jo Ann Poly Calvo, who said she felt “very optimistic about tonight” and called Trump “the perfect candidate for the United States.”

However, some attendees were cautious. Rocco Talarico, 68, was confident in the Republican victory, highlighting that, in his opinion, the country needs a change in issues such as security, economy and borders.

“Kamala (Harris) did nothing for four years,” Talarico said, referring to her time as vice president.

Mike McCormack, 50, expressed his doubts about outside influence on Harris, saying “I have no faith in her” while waiting to hear Trump’s speech.

He was also skeptical about the integrity of the elections, suggesting there could be irregularities in the process.

“I have some confidence in this election, but not a lot,” he declared, while noting his concern about alleged cases of electoral fraud reported in previous elections.
