Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her recent running mate, the governor of Minnesota Tim Walz held the first joint campaign meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the night before Wednesday Finnish time.

It was also Harris’ first campaign event since the Democratic Party confirmed his presidential nomination.

– I stand before you today to proudly announce that I am now officially the Democratic nominee for President of the United States, Harris said at the beginning of his speech.

– We are the underdogs in this competition, but the momentum is on our side, and I know exactly what we are competing against.

Harris’ campaign says it has raised more than $20 million since Walz was selected as the vice presidential nominee.

Harris introduced Walz to a crowd of over 10,000 at Temple University. Harris highlighted Walz’s background as a teacher, football coach, military veteran and governor.

Efforts were made to present Walz as a gentle man of the people and a defender of abortion rights and voting rights. He told the audience about his childhood, his time in the US Army and his experiences as a high school teacher.

Walz hit out at the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump respond by saying that Trump knows nothing about military service because “he’s too busy serving himself.”

– He mocks our laws, he sows chaos and discord. He froze in front of the corona crisis, he drove our economy to the bottom, and violent crime was at its peak under Donald Trump. That doesn’t even count the crimes he committed, Walz said.

Walz also criticized Trump and Republicans for narrowing abortion rights.

– Even if we don’t make the same choices ourselves, there is a golden rule: take care of your own damn business, Walz said and received the audience’s applause.

Walz said at the end of his speech that he was ready for an election debate with Trump’s vice presidential candidate, JD Vance.

– I can’t wait to debate with him.

Pennsylvania matters a lot in the election

Libra states refer to states where the support of the presidential candidates is even and the election results are difficult to predict. The candidate with the most votes in the state gets all the electors of the state behind him.

Pennsylvania is the most significant of the Libra states, as it has the largest number of electors, 19. Winning Pennsylvania is likely to be decisive in November’s presidential election.

In 2016, Trump won Pennsylvania. Joe Biden took the state back to Democrats in the next election in 2020.

According to the latest CBS poll, Harris and Trump are tied in Pennsylvania. The margins between the candidates are vanishingly small in the other six states in the scale.

Later this week, Harris and Walz will campaign in the other swing states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona and Nevada. They were also supposed to visit North Carolina and Georgia, but they will be rescheduled due to the storm Debby that battered the east coast of the United States.
