Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza: World Health Organization Urgently Seeks Information

“World Health”: Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza is out of service

A World Health Organization official said that a hospital in the northern Gaza Strip that was attacked by Israeli forces has stopped working and its patients, including children, have been evacuated, exposing the collapsed health services in the Strip to further risks.

Richard Peppercorn, the representative of the World Health Organization in Gaza, told Reuters: “Several health workers have reportedly been arrested.” “We cannot afford to lose any hospitals,” he added.

Authorities in Gaza said that last week, Israeli forces used a bulldozer to destroy the perimeter of Kamal Adwan Hospital, forcing the displaced people to leave. Israel claimed that the hospital was being used by Hamas fighters.

The World Health Organization said it was urgently seeking information about the hospital.

“What we understand is that it no longer works,” Peppercorn said. He added that two newborn babies were taken home “to their families and with a description of how to care for them,” while other patients, including infants, were evacuated to Al-Ahli and Al-Shifa hospitals.

Most hospitals in Gaza stopped working due to the war, and health services in northern Gaza were the most affected.

There are 2.3 million people living in Gaza, most of whom were displaced from their homes due to the attack launched by Israel following the Hamas incursion on October 7.

While many have been displaced into southern Gaza, reports indicate that up to several hundred thousand people remain in the north, where “there should be a number of functioning health facilities,” Pepperkorn said.

He added that about 4,000 displaced people who took refuge in the Nasser Medical Complex in the southern city of Khan Yunis are at risk while Israel continues its military operations there. He continued, “They told our employees that they are really afraid.”
