Kalvjas Zalcmanis: Notable Latvian Cameraman and Film Professor

Zalcmanis was born on December 14, 1940 in Mazsalac.

He worked at the Riga film studio and was the cameraman for the action movie “Motorcycle Summer” as well as more than 50 documentaries.

From 1993 to 2006, Zalcmanis worked at LKA, where he created and managed the sub-program of TV and video operator art, and was the long-term head of the Department of Screen and Theater Arts.

In 2000, he was awarded the Order of the Three Stars for his services to the Latvian state. In 2010, Zalcmanis was awarded the title of LKA Honorary Professor.

Most of today’s Latvian middle and younger generation operators are students of Kalvjas Zalcmanis, notes LKA.
