/ world today news/ The anniversary of the bombing of Sofia reminds us that political selfishness is punished. This was stated by the leader of BSP – Sofia Kaloyan Pargov, who participated in a press conference on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the Anglo-American bombing of Sofia. It took place on the initiative of the “Vassilev Brothers” foundation and, in addition to Kaloyan Pargov, its chairman Vasil Vassilev, the honorary chairman of the Union of Patriotic Forces “Defense” Yordan Velichkov and Academician Georgi Markov took part in it.
“During the bombing of Sofia by the allied army of Great Britain and the United States in 1943-1944, more than 4,000 people were killed and disappeared without a trace, as many were seriously injured. More than 12,600 buildings were destroyed, nearly 1/4 of the building stock of Sofia collapsed,” recalled Kaloyan Pargov.
The leader of the capital’s socialists is convinced that the commemoration of the day of the Sofia bombings is an occasion to remember how every government must carefully analyze the political situation, be guided above all by the national interest, and not serve the powerful of the day. “Thus, in those years of the Second World War, the government of Bogdan Filov bound our country to the Tripartite Pact, linking the fate of our people with the politics of Nazism and fascism, commented Kaloyan Pargov. – The voice of the people is not heard, any attempt at resistance is punished cruel. Bulgaria declares war on the progressive powers – Great Britain, the United States, the USSR. The result of this fatal decision is the huge material destruction. Today, 74 years later, it is important to remember the memory of the victims , that political selfishness, unprincipled service to the powerful of the day is always punished. Unfortunately, the main victim is the people”.
The anniversary of the Anglo-American bombing of Sofia will be celebrated on March 30, Friday, at 11:00 a.m. with the laying of flowers and wreaths in front of the monument to the dead and victims of the bombings (between the southeast wing of the St. Alexander Nevsky ” and the National Assembly).
