/ world today news/ On the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, the Day of Bulgarian Enlightenment, Culture and Science and of Slavic Writing, we should remember several familiar but extremely important facts from their work. The two brothers created an alphabet that became the basis for the spiritual unity of the Slavs in Europe, from that period until today. The two brothers tour Europe far and wide. They glorify the alphabet and the language into which the holy books were translated – our language. This is what the leader of the BSP – Sofia Kaloyan Pargov, who is also the vice-chairman of the Commission for Culture, Education, Science and Cultural Diversity in the SOS, says on the occasion of May 24.
“On this bright holiday, I want to note, in the context of our membership in the EU, the classic thought of Constantine-Cyril the Philosopher, that every nation has the right to praise God in its own language. In today’s terms, this can be expressed through the concept of cultural diversity as a basis for the development of the European Union. Namely, the right of every nation to preserve and develop its language, its traditions and culture, thus enriching Europe, realizing its spiritual unity”, Pargov is convinced
According to him, in the last 30 years, the Bulgarian right, and now GERB, as part of their neoliberal policy, have been trying to neglect our national identity. “This is the reason why today we are witnessing the gross distortion of Bulgarian history and literature in our educational system. The reason for not looking for and applying modern approaches and financial mechanisms to stimulate modern Bulgarian culture. Gender ideology, anti-communism and Russophobia are being quietly asserted. To delete, and consciously, large periods related to Bulgarian spirituality, our Orthodox and Slavic essence”, said the leader of the capital’s socialists.
He recalled that on the eve of the 140th anniversary of the Liberation of Bulgaria, Russian Patriarch Kirill said that without Bulgarian Orthodoxy, there would be no Russian Orthodoxy. “After the words of Academician Dmitry Likhachov about Bulgaria as a State of the Spirit, this is the second high recognition of Bulgaria’s first apostolic role for Orthodoxy and the Slavic world. A recognition that obliges us to stand up for, that one cannot talk about European values without Orthodox values,” Kaloyan Pargov is emphatic.
“The work of Cyril and Methodius, the patrons of Europe, obliges us, the Bulgarians of the 21st century, to do everything possible so that teachers, artists – writers, artists, journalists, directors, screenwriters, actors, composers, scientists and professors in higher schools, have its rightful place in society – Bulgarian and European,” said Pargov in conclusion
