/ world today news/ Botev bequeathed us his ideals, the question is whether we, as a society, are worthy of them today. Are we trying to achieve them or have we forgotten them in the last 28 years? These questions were asked by the leader of the BSP – Sofia Kaloyan Pargov, who participated in the solemn celebration of the 170th anniversary of the birth of the great Bulgarian poet, publicist and revolutionary Hristo Botev. The event in front of the bust-monument of Botev in the Boris garden was attended by the deputy chairmen of the City Council of the BSP – Sofia Prof. Vanya Dobreva and Hristo Prodanov and people’s representatives from “BSP for Bulgaria”.
“Last summer we celebrated the 180th anniversary of the birth of Vasil Levski, we were in front of the monuments, we gave speeches, but can we say that we also took a step forward to achieve his dream of a pure and holy republic? This and many other questions must to answer on days like today, commented Kaloyan Pargov. “We need to know what we are doing, where we are going and where we will be in 5, 10, 15 years. It is very important for us, as politicians, to answer these questions because we owe it to the citizens of Bulgaria. If our country is also at the bottom of the European rankings in various spheres, if young people leave the country en masse, then we are not worthy of the promises of Botev and Levski. And we should be ashamed.”
The leader of the capital’s socialists recalled that in 2018 we are about to celebrate many round anniversaries. “The most important of them is 140 years since the Liberation of Bulgaria. At such a moment we are obliged to take stock, said Kaloyan Pargov. – And it is not in our favor. Today, when our society is so strongly divided, when we have no guidelines, when young people don’t find a reason to stay in their homeland, we need the uncompromising spirit of Botev, the man who does not allow compromises with his ideas and ideals, the hero who does not tolerate betrayal and considers it the greatest sin. To the revolutionary who is firmly convinced that people should be free and live as brothers”.
Kaloyan Pargov also commented on why it is so important to study Botev in schools. According to him, we need to turn to journalism, to his genius poetry and look for support and inspiration for our future.
“Botev’s work is particularly relevant today, related not only to national freedom, but also to social freedom. The Bulgarian in the 21st century is increasingly economically dependent. Unfortunately, it is becoming more and more difficult for a person to solve his social problems. We cannot say that we live in the democracy that we dreamed about so much, since we do not have social freedom, Pargov is categorical. – This social freedom includes the opportunity to work, the opportunity to create and live with dignity with your family, to be happy. That is why it is so important to be honest about where we are and what we are doing. And let’s start building bridges instead of constantly dividing society.”
