/ world today news/ Tens of thousands of mountain lovers and fans of folk music gathered in the “Panikets” area above Kalofer to celebrate Saint Kirik’s Day and the Traditional Assembly of the town of Botev.
The three-day celebration gathered young and old around the stage for folk songs and dances, which were judged by a professional jury. The large influx of self-made people gave birth to the idea that, if approved by the local residents of Kalofer, the Traditional Assembly would eventually become of International Importance. The proposal came from Plamen Slavov from Karlovy Vary, who is now a candidate for mayor of the municipality of Karlovo from the BSP, who was among the guests of the “Little Rozhen”, as the folklorists named the gathering.
“Today they tell him that, but why not next year or the year after that “Rozhen 2″ will be held here, or, God willing, a bigger forum of international importance”. This was stated by Plamen Slavov in front of one of the folklore groups, guests of the Assembly.
According to Slavov, such an event should be not only of national, but also of international importance. In addition to the preservation of folklore, life, songs and dances, the “Saint Kirik” International Festival in Stara Planina would be of great importance for the livelihood of us who live in the Rose Valley, the people who rely on guests and tourists.
“Calm down, Kalofer and the other settlements in our municipality can and should be made of even greater tourist importance. Apart from the fact that we will keep the young people here, there will be work for other people along with such an event. However, it must necessarily be supported by the Municipal Administration, whose support is now unfortunately lacking, but this omission lies on the shoulders of the current rulers of the Karlovo municipality, who have turned their backs for no reason on what people want and enjoy, namely cultural tourism. At such an event, there is a place for local artisans and other folklore events, whose work should be appreciated even more appropriately.
Kaloferci and the other residents of our municipality have something to show, there is something to please other compatriots, as well as foreigners, believes Plamen Slavov, who as a representative in previous NAs has the necessary contacts to make this happen.
“The assembly must also have the support of the Ministry of Culture and other institutions and associations. At the very least, our regional city of Plovdiv will be the Eurocultural Capital in 2019. Why not our municipality to be part of such a year-round event. I believe that if I receive the support of the people and am elected mayor in the fall, this will happen,” Plamen Slavov said. He once again supported the mayor of Kalofer Rumen Stoyanov, who suffered an accident a few days ago.
For the health of all the residents of Kalofer, and also especially of Atanas Funev, who was injured in the accident, together with the mayor of Kalofer, a sacrifice was given, which traditionally was previously consecrated by Father Mircho, who with everyone prayed to God for the recovery of Nasko and to all sick people.
The Folklore Assembly of Kalofer ended with the National Bagpipe Festival, which is of national importance.
